The little town of Thessalon is in a picturesque setting on the north shore of Lake Huron, just 85 kms. southeast of Sault Ste. Marie. In Thessalon, banking, grocery shopping, postal service, LCBO, the Legion, hair salon, tennis courts,
curling club and arena are
all within a few blocks of the Municipal Offices, library and the
marina.
A government grant ensures safe, sanitary municipal water delivery from the new treatment plant. Garbage pickup includes recycling every other week. Our 2009 taxes were $1,700 for the two lots. A dog tag is five bucks.
There is a helpful and friendly doctor’s clinic right on Main Street where it took only 2 months to arrange our own family doctor. There is a full service hospital in town as well as an ambulance service with easy access to Sault
Ste. Marie specialists. Physio/massage is immediately across from the doctor’s clinic.
Our 3 bedroom, 1.5 baths, brick bungalow is 1420 sq. feet, with a paved driveway on a double lot. The house is approximately 15 years old, maintenance free – with vinyl windows, aluminum soffit and fascia, forced air oil furnace, air exchanger, laminate in livingroom and diningroom, carpet in the bedrooms, Jacuzzi bathtub and dishwasher. The laundry room/mud room is off the kitchen right by the back door. There is a 2.5 car detached heated
garage/studio,
hot tub,
raised vegetable garden, and green house (no green thumb, no problem, more storage). Lots of crawlspace storage (you can stand erect by the furnace). Nicely landscaped with a variety of trees, and loads of Coburn Island “pudding stone”.
We have a lovely view of the north shore of Lake Huron from the living room,
front porch, especially from the hot tub. We can see our boat in it’s slip at the marina from the front porch. Marina
seasonal fees are $14 per foot (for a resident family) and include use of the new clubhouse and all its facilities.
Salmon fishing begins in early June on the lake. Lots of inland lakes nearby for
trout, bass or walleye. Locals use the river that runs through town for trolling, kayaking and canoeing. Miles and
miles of snow mobile trails. A quaint, interesting rod and gun club is just north of town in Little Rapids. Golfing is
two miles east on the highway with senior’s rates available. Seniors also enjoy Friday afternoon curling at Thessalon’s
own curling rink. Anterless deer tags are available for the area and bird hunting is just north of town up the 129
highway.
Yes, we had looked into Elliott Lake before we came here but it is a long drive
in from the highway which means an even further drive from “the Northshore”.
The price of our home is $199,900 and we are flexible about a moving date.
We are on a non thru street at 42 Lorne Street east. Turn east at the municipal
office corner off Main St.
Why not book a night at the
Carolyn Beach Motel and enjoy the sunset over Lake Huron after coming in to take a look at our way of life?
